Apr 9th – Apr 11th Denver Nuggets Games

Apr 9th, Denver Nuggets vs. Portland Trailblazers

The Denver Nuggets pull off their 6th straight win against the #1 team in the eastern conference. If the Nuggets win their next game playing the Timberwolves then they will be 8th in the western conference spot going to the playoffs. A former Nuggets player, Jusuf Nurkic from Bosnia put up 20 points and 19 rebounds against the Nuggets and gave Nikola Jokic a hard time in the paint. Jokic finished the game with his 10th triple-double of the season and racked up 15 points, 11 assists and 20 rebounds. The Thuggets head coach, Michael Malone told his team that this was their last chance and if they lose then the seasons over. Malone also decided to bring Gary Harris off the bench instead of start him because he hasn’t played in 9 games and Malone didn’t want to mess up the chemistry the team had. Gary Harris had 12 points and 1 rebound for his first game back in a 9 games.

April 11th, Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

April 11th was a sad day the Denver Nuggets and all the fans out there. Denver Came up short in overtime against the Trailblazers and lost their chance to make it the playoffs. After 14 long seasons the Trailblazers finally made it to the playoffs and cut the Nuggets out of the equation. Nikola Jokic finish with 35 points and 15 rebounds, but that couldn’t stop the big man, Karl Anthony-Towns. Big KAT had 26 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists that helped the Timberwolves beat the Nuggets. Personally, I believe this was one of the worst officiated games I have ever watched. The refs didn’t seem to be on the Nuggets side all night. Will Barton had a brilliant 3-pointer that beat the shot  lock to send the Nuggets to the lead of 104-103 late in overtime. Taj Gibson, a veteran for the Timberwolves played great defense against Jokic that forced him to air-ball a 3-pointer which then resulted in Jeff Teague draining a floater to put the Timberwolves back in the lead. Another great defensive play by Taj Gibson in the last 5 seconds of the game forced Jokic to lose the ball of of bounds, thus giving the Timberwolves the advantage with no time for the Nuggets to do anything about it. The Nuggets had 15 turnovers resulting in 24 points for Minnesota. Big KAT had 86 double-doubles this season, which was the most in the NBA. Wednesday, April 11th was a very rough day for the fans of Denver and especially for the Nuggets. Next time you read this say a few prayers for the Nuggets and hope they can get their mojo back for next season. Denver is going to need to make some adjustments to their roster and make a new game plan for next season. Thank you everyone who has tuned in and read my blogs about the Denver Thuggets this 2017-2018 season. I will have a podcast posted soon about the Nuggets players, future plans, and overall season. Thanks and GO NUGGETS!

Apr 3rd – Apr 7th Denver Nuggets Games

Apr 3rd, Denver Nuggets vs. Indiana Pacers

Denver is doing exactly what they need to do during this time of the season. With playoffs quickly approaching, the Nuggets need to continue to keep winning and make their way up the western conference playoff list. Denver Beat the Pacers 107-104. This victory against Indiana put the Nuggets a half point closer to the Pelicans for the 8th spot in the playoffs. Wilson Chandler will be wearing a face mask for the next couple of games because of his broken nose, but that doesn’t stop the motivation the Nuggets have and need to keep winning. Will Abrton played a great game with 26 points and 10 rebounds and same with Jokic scoring 30 points and 6 rebounds. Fun fact: The Pacers haven’t won in Denver since Nov. 27th 2007. Gary Harris has now missed his 9th game due to a sprained right knee. Coach Malone wants his team to get lots of physical and mental rest because the couple of games are extremely important for them to win.

Apr 5th, Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

The Thuggets with another win! Denver beat the Timberwolves 100-96. This win helped tie the Timberwolves for 8th place with only 3 games left. Nikola Jokic (the joker) finished the game with 16 points and 14 rebounds and his reserve Devin Harris added 20 points for Denver. The big man on the Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds before fouling out with a little more than a minute left in the game. Will Barton had a shot with 6.6 seconds left that missed but was rebounded by the joker and with him scoring a quick 2 points sealed the deal for the Nugs. Jimmy Butler is one of Minnesota’s star players and was unfortunately not able to play against Denver, but the results of the game also could have been different if he did play.

Apr 7th, Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers

The Denver Nuggets win their 5th game in a row, which is exactly what they needed in these last couple of games to gain control of the playoffs. The Nuggets beat the Clippers b134-115 and eliminated the Clippers chance of making playoffs. Will Barton had 30 points And Nikola Jokic had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Both the Nuggets and Timberwolves are tied at 45-35 for 8th place so it is detrimental for the Thuggets to win their next two games to make playoffs. Coach Malone thinks this was one of the best games that Denver balanced their offense and defense to get the win. Lou Williams who is the leading scorer on the Clippers was 0-for-7 in the first half of the game and didn’t score until late in the 3rd quarter. The Nuggets will go up against the Portland Trailblazers on Monday and will have to win to keep their spot in the playoffs.

Mar 26th – Apr 1st Denver Nuggets Games

Mar 26th, Denver Nuggets vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Well, the two game win streak came to an end after the Nuggets lost to the 76ers, 123-104. Just like last game the Nuggets struggled to stop 3-pointers. The 76ers scored 13-of-28 from downtown. An reoccurring phase the Nuggets are going through is they gain the lead by double-digits, then lose the lead later in the game. It has happened the last 4-out-of-7 games they have played. Thankfully for Denver, the Grizzlies beat Minnesota which keeps the Nuggets and Timberwolves at 1.5 games for the last playoff spot.

Mar 27th, Denver Nuggets vs Toronto Raptors

The Denver Nuggets fell short to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. After the loss against Philly and now to Toronto the Nuggets are losing urgency and slipping away from that playoff spot. The Thuggets only have 7 games left to play and every minute and every play matter immensely. Nikola Jokic had 29 points and 16 rebounds, while Paul Millsap had 20 points and 6 rebounds. The Raptors out scored the Nuggets 52-29 in bench points. The Raptors have some of the best bench players in the NBA league right now, which helps a lot when their starters need a breather. Another big factor for the Nuggets was the fact that leading scorer Gary Harris missed his sixth straight game due to a knee injury.

Mar 30th, Denver Nuggets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

WHAT A GAME! The Denver Nuggets pulled off the win against the OKC in overtime. Denver score 126, while the Thunder only scored 125. This was a huge win for the Nuggets after losing their last two games. Paul Millsap had a season high of 36 points and 9 rebounds. Coach Malone is really liking what hes sees from Millsap and how he is improving every game. Oklahoma City’s star player, Russel Westbrook almost had a triple-double with 33 points, 13 assists, and 9 rebounds. Denver led 122-121 going in to OT, Jamal Murray forced a jump ball and OKC came up with the possession with 15 seconds left and then Mason Plumlee had a great block to keep the Nuggets in the lead. Paul George, another star player on OKC was fouled with 4.6 seconds left and made the first but intentionally missed the second and got called for a lane violation where Will Barton made both free throws to seal the deal.

Apr 1st, Denver Nuggets vs. Milwaukee Bucks

If you thought last game was exciting…WOW! The Nuggets with another insane OT win against the Milwaukee Bucks. The game started very slow for the Thuggets and looked real good for the Bucks. Milwaukee led the 1st quarter 34-22. But in the second quarter the Nuggets were on fire and led 63-54 by half time. Early in the third Jamal Murray got two fouls and went to the bench, which left the Nuggets without their 3 leading offensive scorers, Jamal Murray, Gary Harris, and Wilson Chandler. The 4th quarter started out rough for the Nuggets after the Bucks took an 18 point lead midway through the 4th quarter. Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of the best players in the league right now picked up his 6th foul of the game in the 4th quarter but still leading against the Thugs 107-97 with 3:43 in the game left. The last 10 seconds of the game were the most intense basketball I have watched all season. Jamal Murray had an amazing steal off an inbound play with only a few seconds left and pulled up for a 3-pointer and missed but was fouled on the play resulting in Murray getting 3 free throw shots and him draining all 3 shots. I wish i could have been at this game because the fans at the Pepsi Center looked like they were going wild! Overtime belonged to the Nuggets. The game ended with the Nuggets scoring 128 to 125.

Mar 19th – Mar 23rd Denver Nuggets Games

Mar 19th, Denver Nuggets vs. Miami Heat

Denver suffered a tough loss against the Heat in double-overtime with a score of 149-141. This loss moved the Nuggets back to 10th place in the western conference. Even with the loss Nikola Jokic finished the game with 34 points and 14 rebounds to record his 31st double-double of the season. This was a detrimental game to win because it would have helped the Nuggets move closer to a playoff spot. The regular time game ended tied at 118-118. Power forward James Johnson for the Heat scored 18 of his 31 points, which was a career high for him that night. The Thuggets lost this heartbreaking game even with Dwayne Wade and Hassan Whiteside out with injuries.

Mar 21st, Denver Nuggets vs. Chicago Bulls

Denver had a great game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. The Nuggets scored 135 and held the Bulls to 102. Denver was really feeling themselves against Chicago because they scored 20 3-pointers and was 61.4% from field-goal. That is their second time scoring like this in 72 games this season. Winning this game puts the Nuggets back 1.5 games from Utah for the 8th spot in the playoffs. The Nuggets really have to play as a team and win the majority of their games to try and make playoffs.

Mar 23rd, Denver Nuggets vs. Washington Wizards

The Nuggets are starting to hit a hot streak! The Thuggets beat the Wizards 108 to 100 on Friday, March 23rd. Jokic finished the game with 25 points, 5 assists, and 8 rebounds. This win helped Denver move to only 1 game away from Utah to get to 8th place in the playoffs. Jamal Murray was the leading scorer of this game with 25 points and scoring 20 of them in the first half, helping Denver get to a double-digit lead by half time. Murray also hit 2 free throws in the last 41 seconds to put Denver up 104-97. Denver is still struggling with defense, Washington scored 14 3-pointers in the third quarter because the Nuggets couldn’t get their hands up.

Mar 11th – Mar 17th Denver Nuggets Games

Mar 11th, Denver Nuggets vs. Sacramento Kings

The Thuggets pulled off a huge home game win against the Kings with a score of 130-104. The Nuggets got 6 players to score double digits, which hasn’t happened in months. Nikola Jokic recorded his 7th triple double this season, with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. This game was a little relief for the Thuggets and Thuggets fans. The kings came into this game already being eliminated from the playoffs, so they could have been less enthusiastic to play, but that didn’t stop Denver from putting on a great home show. Even though this big win was good for the Nuggets, other teams trying to contend for those playoff spots were hard at work. The Wolves beat the Warriors, the Lakers beat the Cavs and Utah beat the Pelicans. The Nuggets are currently tied with Utah for 9th place in the western conference.

Mar 13th, Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Denver Nuggets played the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday the 13th. Unfortunately the Nuggets weren’t able to pull off the win against the Lakers. The Lakers got lucky this time around playing the Nuggets. Isaiah Thomas, just freshly traded to the Lakers a few weeks ago scored 12 of his 23 points in the 4th quarter alone. Julius Randle and Kyle Kuzma each scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds, which was more than any of the Nuggets that night. Kuzma for the Lakers sprained his ankle late in the 3rd quarter, but returned in the 4th to help the Lakers seal the deal for the win. The Lakers had bad-blood with Jamal Murray because of his altercations with Lonzo Ball and Lakers Head Coach. As Murray entered the Staples Center the crowd booed and continued to do so every time Murray got the ball. Coach Malone of the Thuggets told the players to just stay out of the “nonsense’ tonight and play the game they knew. Unluckily, the Nuggets fell short to the win vs the Lakers.

Mar 15th, Denver Nuggets vs. Detroit Pistons

The Thuggets have been going back and forth with wins and losses. The Nuggets beat the Pistons on Thursday, the 15th. The final score was 120-113. Jokic recorded his 8th triple double of the season, he had 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to help with the win over Detroit. This win over the Pistons was a much-needed boost for their playoff hopes. Regardless of the results, Andre Drummond scored 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Blake Griffin had 26 points and 9 assists. A big issue the Nuggets are having this season is gaining the lead quick in the first half but slowly letting the lead go through out the rest of the game. The Pistons started to come back after the drained 8 3-pointers in the second half. With Nikola scoring his 8th triple double, the last Nuggets player to do that was Fat Lever in 1988-89. The Nuggets team almost expect Jokic to score a triple double each game because it happens so often.

Mar 17th, Denver Nuggets vs. Memphis Grizzlies

The Denver Nuggets did something almost no team in the NBA has done in seven weeks, they lost to the Girzzlies. Denver broke Memphis’ 19 game losing streak as they fell short with a score of 94-10. The Nuggets failed to make movement in the western conference playoffs bracket and are still stuck at 9th place. Nuggets won’t be returning home until April 1st to play the Milwaukee Bucks, so it is crucial for them to win-out on the road. Gary Harris, the Thuggets leading scorer was out due to a knee injury from the previous game against the Pistons. Without Gary in the game, Nikola Jokic took over and scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds which wasn’t enough to beat the lousy Grizzlies. Coach Malone said his starting line-ups performance was “unacceptable” and the team needs to change their attitude if they are trying to make the playoffs.

Mar 3rd – Mar 9th Denver Nuggets Games

Mar 3rd, Denver Nuggets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Denver played the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday, March 3rd and secured one of the biggest games of their season. The Thuggets won 126-117 for their fourth consecutive road win. Nikola Jokic didn’t have a game like he usually does, but he still put up 9 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds. This was just Paul Millsaps’ 3rd game back from being hurt since mid November and he put up 11 points, 4 assists, and 6 rebounds. It’s obvious that the Thuggets have been struggling with defense all year, but with the return of Millsaps’ the Nuggets haven’t been struggling as much as they have been. Denver held Cleveland to only 6-of-17 on the floor and 1-of-6 from 3 point range in the fourth quarter. The Nuggets had 20 turnovers against the Clippers and 22 against the Grizzlies, but only gave up the ball 9 times against the Cavs. These are the small improvements the Nuggets need to keep on working to ensure a playoff spot.

Here’s a video of the game recap!

Mar 6th, Denver Nuggets vs. Dallas Mavericks

The Denver Nuggets fell short and loss their game against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday the 6th. This was the worst shooting performance the Nuggets had since January 22nd and was a missed opportunity to have 3 on-the-road wins and make a greater dent into the western conference playoffs spot. Nikola Jokic failed score in the double digits and didn’t even play in the 4th quarter. Wilson Chandler had the most points on the team with 21 points while Will Barton had the next highest with 16 points, but that wasn’t enough to beat the opponent. The Thuggs let the old man, Dirk Nowitzki score 5-3’s through out the game. The Nuggets are battling with 7 other teams to try to lock in their spot for the playoffs in the west.

Mar 7th, Denver Nuggets vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Yet another tough loss for Denver against the Cavaliers on Wednesday the 7th. The ending score was 113-108. Lebron James has a big game with 39 points and 10 assists. Lebron wasn’t missing against the Thuggs tonight. Nikola Jokic had an exceptional game with 36 points and 13 rebounds, but it still wasn’t enough to stop one of the best players in the game, Lebron James. One thing the Nuggets do need to work on is Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsaps to get on the same page, because if they are willing to work together thoroughly then they will be unstoppable.

Mar 9th, Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers

After a 2-game lose streak the Nuggets got the win over the Lakers scoring 125 and only letting Los Angeles score 116. Currently the Thuggets are in a 3-way-tie for the final playoff spot in the western conference. Denver’s defense finally locked down their opponents in the 4th quarter when it really mattered. It may have taken 5 games to get in sync with each other but Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsaps worked beautiflly together on both sides of the court. Both had 21 points and 6 rebounds, combining for 16-of-26 shots from the floor. The Pepsi Center in Denver also had a sold out venue so it was a special win for the Nuggets in front of their home town.

Feb 27th – Mar 2nd Denver Nuggets Games

Feb 27th, Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angles Clippers

Another sad loss for the Nuggets on Tuesday against the Clippers. This was one of the Thugs worst losses all season. Denver had a 19-point lead going into the second half but falling short in the end with a final score 122-120. Finally Paul Millsap is back from a lengthy break fro ma wrist injury. Millsaps’ hasn’t played since mid November and scored 9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 24 minutes. Millsaps’ received a standing ovation at the Pepsi Center on Tuesday night for being out majority of the season. The Nuggets struggled with defense yet again and let the Clippers score 70 points in the second half of the game, moving the Nuggets to 29th in defense efficiency. Denver has missed the postseason 5 years in a row  and since Millsaps’ is back, the Nuggets are determined to work on their defense to make playoffs. “Right now, we can’t guard anybody,” said coach Mike Malone, via The Denver Post’s Gina Mizell. Denver needs to really step it up for the next games because a playoff berth is super important for the ownership, the fan base and everyone else involved in the program.

Mar 2nd, Denver Nuggets vs. Memphis Grizzlies

It wasn’t the prettiest win, but the Thuggets got the W over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, March 2nd. The Nuggets won 108-102 for their 10th on-the-road win. Coach Malone decided to put Paul Millsaps’ back into the starting lineup, which ended up being a great idea. Fellow teammates of Millsaps’ had a lot of good things to say about him and how he really helps the team and how they are learning a lot with him being back on the court. Memphis now has the worst winning percentage in the league, but they were still able to get 22 turnovers on the Nuggets. Coach Malone says the team was trying to force the big home-run plays and that’s how they ended up with 22 turnovers against the Grizzlies. With this win over Memphis, this keeps Denver in 8th place in the western conference. Denver will face Cleveland for the first time all season tomorrow March, 3rd.

Feb 23rd – 25th Denver Nuggets Games

Feb 23rd, Denver Nuggets vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Denver Nuggets faced the San Antonio Spurs for the second time in 2 weeks. The Thuggets pulled of the win against the spurs scoring 122 while the Spurs only scored 119. This was the Nuggets 10th win in 13 games, putting them in 9th place in the western conference. Of course one of the star players for the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic had his 3rd consecutive triple-double against the Spurs scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. In February alone Jokic is averaging 22.4 points, 11.6 rebounds and 9.8 assists. I think everyone can agree that watched this game that the officiating was absolute garbage and was not favorable for Denver. San Antonio shot 39 free throws, which is the most for a Nuggets opponent all season. Coach Malone also got called for a technical in the second half. Mason Plumlee returned from a 3 week absence from a calf injury and helped the Nuggets lock in the win with a nasty dunk in the last 10 seconds of the game. The Nuggets and Spurs both came into this game on the 23rd in the top 10 of their conferences and are now tied against 2-2 against each other.

Fed 25th, Denver Nuggets vs. Houston Rockets

The Thuggets weren’t as lucky in their game against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, the 25th. The Rockets beat the Nuggets 119-114. A big reason the Nuggets couldn’t pull of the W was partially because Gary Harris had a rough night. Harris was 2-for-12 from the floor and 0-for-5 from 3 point range. This was just the second time in 31 games that the rising star, Gary Harris couldn’t reach double figures. It wasn’t a surprise that Harris had a hard time guarding James Harden, one of the best players in the league. Denver had another rough night with free throws, letting the Rockets shoot 26-for-32 free throws. The Nuggets have to really work on their defense if they are still trying to fight for that playoffs spot. Right now the Nuggets are ranked 28th in the league in defense efficiency over its last 14 games. Being ranked 28th in the NBA isn’t where the Thuggets want to be this close to the playoffs, because right now they are only beating Phoenix and Brooklyn in defense efficiency.

Feb 13th – 15th Denver Nuggets Games

Feb 13th, Denver Nuggets vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Denver Nuggets played the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, February 13th at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The Nuggets pulled off the win with scoring 117 and the Spurs only scoring 107. This was a huge game for Nikola Jokic who had 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. This was Nikola Jokic’s 4th triple double this season and his 10th career triple double. Will Barton also showed up for this game scoring a total of 20 points. Despite having a lot of valuable players out on the Spurs bench, like Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge, Joffrey Lauvergne scored a career high of 26 points and had 11 rebounds while Tony Parker had 17 points for the Spurs. This was a big win for Denver because the Spurs have controlled the Nuggets for the last four seasons winning 15 out of 16 games til February 13th. Even the legend head coach Gregg Popovich had high praise for the young Nikola Jokic saying, “I enjoy watching him play… He can shoot, he passes, he’s just a very smart player.” Beating the Spurs isn’t something that happens often so the Nuggets are excited about this win and are currently 8-3 in their last 11 home games. The spurs have one more game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday the 15th and then they will go on a nice break for All-star weekend.

Feb 15th, Denver Nuggets vs. Milwaukee Bucks

After the win against San Antonio on Tuesday, Denver moved into sixth place in the western conference standings and then played the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. The team of young stars beat the Bucks 134 to 123. The Nuggets, or should I say Thuggets, scored a high of 24 3-pointers to get the win over Milwaukee. Nikola Jokic went down in the NBA history books with the fastest recorded triple-double in 14:55 minutes in the first half. With The Nuggets scoring 24 3-pointers, this was one of the bets 3-point shooting nights in league history. Milawaukee did have some key players that kept Denver on their feet the whole game. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a great night with 36 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists but it wasn’t enough to stop The Thuggets. Denver’s next game isn’t until Friday, February 23rd and they will play The San Antonio Spurs again.
